UDN is driven by the following strategic goals that also inform its vision and mission:
Ensure that citizens' oversight of public resource generation, management and utilization is strengthened to enhance public accountability, access to, and efficient delivery of services.
Ensure that civil Society credibility and capacity to deliver on their strategic poverty reduction interventions is enhanced.
Ensure that UDN is a strong and sustainable organization, with solid systems and resources to deliver high quality outputs.
UDN STRATEGIC ADVOCACY PROGRAMME AND PLAN 2012– 16
UDN is currently operating a five-year Strategic Programme and Plan 2012-2016 with the following programme areas:
- Governance and Rights
The Programme aims to see that citizens' oversight of public resource generation, management and utilization is strengthened to enhance public accountability, access to, and efficient delivery of services. This will be achieved by ensuring that:
a) key policies on the generation and management of public resources benefit the majority of the population especially the poor people,
b) Budget processes at national and local levels respond to priorities for poverty reduction, and
c) Corruption, wastage and misuse of public resources reduced and accountability improved.
- Capacity Building and Empowerment
The strategic objective of this programme is to enhance Civil Society credibility and capacity to deliver on their strategic poverty reduction interventions. This is to be achieved when:
a) CSOs and CBOs attain institutional capacity for effective advocacy and sustainability, and
b) communities access quality services.
- Institutional and Organizational Development
The strategic objective of this programme is to build a strong organization with solid governance and management structures and systems to deliver high quality outputs. This will be achieved when:
a strong governance and management structure providing strategic leadership to the organization is established,
b) the institutional framework for advocacy, monitoring, communication and information management is strengthened, and
c) a resource mobilization and sustainability strategy for UDN is in place and operational.
