The COVID-19 pandemic has once again highlighted the importance of ensuring accountability and transparency in public finance management having exposed challenges in governance in the financial year 2020/21. In the midst of a pandemic, the Government of Uganda acquired some loans, received grants from various sources as well as donations from citizens and well-wishers to address the effects of the pandemic especially on the ailing health sector but also rescue the economy which was on the brink of collapse.
UDN is concerned that the Government has not provided any accountability regarding the utilization and impact of any of the COVID_19 resources to enable citizens to follow up and report cases of misuse as and when they arise.
